Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations indicate the substance was probably human blood.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have requested to the residents for information.
A senior official said the incident left him without words and required to be solved quickly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
